Description of Resting Holstein

I have pushed the coloring in this image to the point of being almost “electric”. The cow as you know if pretty much black and white but the painter can portray that using a fairly wide range of hues. For example, a great black it a mixture of alizarin crimson and ultra marine blue from which the lighter shades can become more purple or blue. And white has any number of possibilities, quite frankly, I never use pure white anywhere on any of my paintings.
