While working with the charcoal dust after it has been thrown or sprinkled onto the paper, I try to hold onto some of the wonderful, natural effects of that initial splattering. That is why you will see small black explosions mixed in with the smudged motions of my fingers and hands – all happening long before I actually begin drawing the figure. Obviously, the erasure is my very good friend.
