Looking Out (pastel)

This was my preliminary sketch to the much larger painting of the same name. This was produced on sand paper and the initial coloring was done with thin oils, a technique I employ often when working with pastels for two reasons: one, it tones the paper so I am not working on white and two, I can play with the forms and spills of thin paint which may help me see more of the structure to the design.
