Description of Roy
Roy was one of my best friends. His family and ours grew up together; his son and theirs remaining best friends today. His untimely passing a shock to us and the community. This large charcoal portrait comes directly out of my love and respect for him. He identified closely with the crow – smart, alert, devious, proud and black. This drawing began by throwing charcoal dust onto the paper and with my hand, pulling his image out of the dust. My handprint is on the upper left.
