Serious Holstein

Recently I have been drawing and painting lots of cows in various compositions, but I have been thinking about art and cows for a long time. They embody a deep sense of our connection to the land and also have that wonderful abstraction on their hides. This is a large drawing (34″ x 46″) using a stick of charcoal that is 1/2 inch thick and 8 inches long. Very elemental and visceral.
