The Bridge

This is a large (24″ x 38″) painting on paper. The paper is 300 lb Arches and has been severely distressed as you can see with torn edges and a very rough surface. The idea of a palimpsest is at work here – an ancient document that has gone through a history of changes and reformulations so that one gets a sense of not only the passage of time but an underlying wisdom that may becoming lost. It is basically a view from my house looking north at the bridge which connects the west end of the city of Ithaca, NY to downtown.
